The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has officially dismissed 14 SASSA grant officers for being involved in corruption. According to Tabisa Nondwayi’s statement, SASSA has dismissed 14 officials in 2026, while 11 are facing disciplinary hearings.
These steps show the seriousness of SASSA regarding the SASSA social grant programs. Also, SASSA told ALGOA FM that SAPS is checking all these corruption cases.
According to Nondwayi, the initial investigation reveals major fraud cases in local SASSA offices in multiple provinces, including Mdantsane, Libonde, Mount Ayliff, Komani, Idutywa, Qeonce, Zwide and Duncan Village.
What Are the Matters of Corruption?
Tabisa Nondwayi said that the officials were approving social grants using fraudulent methods. She also added that they were changing the beneficiaries’ banking details using illegal or unauthorized methods.
For example, they were using beneficiaries’ personal details, such as banking details, to get the payment in their own bank accounts. Also, they were approving social grants such as the SRD grant of R370 to applicants who were not eligible for that.
However, SASSA took strict action against all these fraudulent officials, and they were immediately dismissed.
SASSA Eastern Cape Regional Manager Mr Bandile Maqetuka
On this matter, the SASSA Eastern Cape Regional Manager, Mr Bandile Maqetuka, says every case or matter of fraud against SASSA is the case against the poor and vulnerable citizens who are suffering from extreme poverty, and this grant is their hope.
“We have both a constitutional and moral obligation to protect every cent entrusted to the Agency. We will not hesitate to take decisive disciplinary and criminal action against any official who abuses their position for personal gain. Our message is unequivocal: corruption has no place in SASSA, and anyone found guilty of defrauding the Agency will face the full might of the law,” he said.
What to Expect from SASSA in the Future?
The future of SASSA seems quite bright and successful. The agency is taking full measures against fraud and abuse of positions for personal benefits. In the past, there were numerous cases of corruption and fraud in SASSA.
However, in 2026, you can see that SASSA is very active and strict in protecting the millions of rands that citizens who truly deserve them receive.
The future will be foolproof, and due to advancements in technology such as AI, the agency has adopted some foolproof methods. One such method is to launch the e-KYC for the SRD R370 grant.
