🪪 SASSA e-KYC Status Check

SASSA has terminated more than 35,000 social grants during the 2026 fiscal year, according to Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana. He also stated that R292.8 billion has been allocated to SASSA social grants for the 2026/2027 financial year. To prevent fraudulent applications and verify beneficiaries, SASSA has introduced client identity verification, also known as SASSA e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer).

This system involves verifying a beneficiary’s identity and personal information before SASSA approves or continues payments. Those who have already applied for e-KYC need to check their SASSA e-KYC status. And here is how to do it.

  1. Go to the e-KYC web portal: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/ekyc
  2. Look for the “Click here to e-KYC status check” button and tap on it.
  3. Enter your ID number and phone number.
  4. Tap on “Send PIN” and get the PIN on your SRD-registered phone number.
  5. Verify the PIN and check your e-KYC status on the status page.

  4. Verify your information: Make sure your name, government-issued ID number, date of birth, and mobile number match your official records.
  5. Wait for processing: Biometric verification may take time when SASSA is processing a large number of applications. Avoid submitting repeated applications.
  6. Check your status again: After completing verification, check your SASSA status again for any updates.
  7. Visit a SASSA office: If the verification remains pending, visit your nearest SASSA office with your ID and relevant SASSA messages.

SASSA Status Results Explained

SRD status has different outcomes that every applicant and beneficiary should learn. 90% of applicants expect only two outcomes: approved or declined. However, the reality is different. In a real-world case, the application status could be as follows:

Self-Exclusion Response Found

Your application is not approved due to your ineligibility. The reason is that you are either earning more than R624 per month or you have assets like a car, a home, and a permanent job.

Referred To DHA/DSD

If your status says “Referred”, then it means SASSA has sent your application file to the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) or the Department of Social Development (DSD) for further verification and eligibility check. You need to wait for the final decision.

Outstanding Documents

Your documents for the application are still pending. Check your payment status to find out what documents are missing or further required for the approval of your application.

SASSA Status Approved But Payment Window is Pending?

SASSA has approved your status, but there is no payment date? This is a very common issue, and many beneficiaries are facing this in 2026. In most cases, SASSA is still verifying your details across different departments. There is a chance that you will get an approved status. However, SASSA can hold your payment if they find anything suspicious in your profile.

So what to do? Well, do nothing but show patience. SASSA will counter-verify all your details, and then your payment date will be issued. Remember that SASSA never asks for any payment if your payment date is pending or missing. So beware of scammers. Also, in case of no pay date issuance, you should call 0800 60 10 11 on the SASSA helpline.

How to Appeal a SASSA Disapproved SRD Application?

SASSA can disapprove an SRD application if it finds discrepancies or issues in the applicant’s SASSA profile. You must meet all grant eligibility requirements to receive the R370 payment. However, SASSA may sometimes disapprove an application even when the applicant believes they meet the requirements. In this situation, the applicant has the right to submit an appeal for reconsideration.

Applicants can submit their SRD appeal through the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA). ITSAA is an independent body in South Africa that handles appeals against decisions made by SASSA. The tribunal reviews appeal cases and determines whether the applicant’s circumstances support a change in the original decision.

If your SRD application was disapproved, you can appeal for reconsideration using this SRD appeal guide.

  1. Go to https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/, which is the official appeal portal.
  2. Click on “Click here to lodge an appeal or check appeal status” and proceed to the next page.
  3. Provide your 13-digit ID number and 10-digit mobile number on your SRD file.
  4. Click on “Send PIN,” get the OTP on your mobile phone, and verify it.
  5. Choose the reason for the decline, such as “Means_Income_Source_Identified,” and submit the appeal form.

Note: If your appeal for one month is declined, the decision will not affect your SRD applications or payments for the following months.

🔎 SASSA Appeal Outcome Tracker

How to Solve SASSA Payment Date Discrepancies?

Payment dates can sometimes differ from the expected schedule due to verification, banking delays, or processing issues. If your payment date appears different, check your latest SASSA status and payment information first.

Confirm that your banking details are correct and active. You can also check your bank account for pending deposits. If the payment remains delayed, contact SASSA for assistance and confirm the reason for the discrepancy. However, here are some formal reasons for payday delays.

  • SASSA is facing a burden: Almost 8.2 million people are receiving the grant in 2026. This is a huge number, and it can add a burden on SASSA. So you need to wait a couple of days to get your payday.
  • System verification backlog: Identity, income, and database checks are necessary before issuing a payment date. High verification volume delays date allocation even after approval.
  • Banking detail validation is pending: The confirmation of account ownership through bank response protocols. Unverified or recently changed banking details postpone payment scheduling.
  • Payment batch allocation is not completed: SASSA releases payments in controlled batches each month. An approved status remains without a date until batch assignment occurs.
  • Fraud risk screening requires additional review: SASSA applies automated risk scoring to detect duplicate or irregular applications. Applications flagged for manual review receive payment dates after clearance.
  • Public holiday or weekend processing gap: SASSA processes payment files on working days only. Approval during non-working periods shifts the payment date to the next cycle.

SASSA e-KYC Verification for SRD

SASSA CEO Themba Matlou said in a media briefing that we have blocked 495,000 SASSA social grant clients who were not eligible for the grant payments that they were receiving. (Source: SA News). That is why every applicant now has to pass the e-KYC verification to be eligible for the grant payment.

Those who are thinking of applying for the SRD in 2026 have to pass the e-KYC. I have explained the complete method for passing the e-KYC verification from SASSA.

  3. Once you receive the verification URL via email or SMS, you need to open it on your smartphone with a valid, working front camera.
  4. The link will take you to the verification process, where you need to pass facial recognition via your phone’s front camera.
  5. Submit the verification to activate payment processing for the approved SRD status.

Once you submit the details, you need to check your SASSA e-KYC status on the official SRD website.
